These illustrations are based on Ryūnosuke Akutagawa’s novella Kappa. The story uses many satirical metaphors to show the problems of the society at that time, and many parts are dark and strange. When planning the illustrations, I wanted a child-like or fairy-tale style, so the pictures match the strange feeling of the story.
All the illustrations are made with acrylic paint and colored pens. For the book design, I used a fabric cover, and I added some small drawings beside certain pages to help explain the story.
